History

Tiverton’s New Generation Majorettes was founded in October 2002, it was originally named the New Generation Majorettes and had just twelve majorettes and ten committee members.

The original committee members where: Rona Cooper, Tracy Vellacott, Kay Sawyer, Lorraine Sellen, Kay Powell, Michelle Powell, Danielle Powell, Jane Parkhouse, Tracey Parkhouse and Tash Barrington.

The troupe was formed with one specific aim, and that was that the committee would always ensure the troupes best interest was the priority.

Our Colours:
When deciding on the troupe colours we wanted something that would enable us to stand out. We went through every colour possible but there was only one at that time that was not being used by another troupe on our circuit, ‘purple’. It was felt that the trimmings should be either silver or gold, gold was the preferred choice by the majority and black was the obvious choice as an extra colour as it will go with anything.

Name Change:
We were awarded the honour of wearing the town crest in 2004 on the priviso that we included the name ‘Tiverton’ in our troupe name, so we became the Tiverton’s New Generation Majorettes.

Town Crest:
As i said before, we were awarded the honour of wearing the town crest in 2004, although our application for the town crest was contested. After much debate the town council decided that any organisation that was representing the town would be entitled to wear the crest if they wish, as long as the organisation fitted certain criteria, set by the council. I am pleased to say that the Tiverton’s New Generation Majorettes do, and we wear the crest with pride.

Our First Competition:
The first competition that we entered was Crediton Greensword’s at Crediton Leisure Centre, Crediton in June 2003. We entered five sections, Senior Military, Senior Pom - Poms, Senior Baton Twirling, Junior Pom - Poms, and Tiny - Tot Pom - Poms.

Our first competition season was a huge success, we walked away with 28 troupe awards as well as many other individual awards for miss trooper, miss mace etc.

By the end of the first season the troupe had more than doubled in size, and has continued to grow at a vast rate.

Sponsorship:
We have recently been lucky enough to have a sponsor come forward who believes in the troupe and all its members so much that they have decided to support the troupe financially by donating a lump sum each year to go into troupe funds to use on whatever the troupe needs at the time.

We would like to thank Andy and Anja and all at Sophia’s Eveningwear for believeing in our troupe and supporting us in such a big way. We will always be so grateful for your support.

Turners Tours Supply all of our coaches.

We would like to say a big thank you to everybody who supports our troupe.

The Troupes Future:
Now the troupe has over 45 members, a strong committee of 12, the honour of wearing the town crest and financial support for a long time to come, we can only foresee the troupe going from strength to strength.

We have achieved so much in the short time the troupe has been running, we have had many obstacles to overcome, but always embrace them and come out the other side a stronger troupe. We feel that our troupe is proof that as long as you believe in something enough and work hard enough at it you will be rewarded for all your efforts.

Our reward as a committee is to see the majorettes perform and compete as a team. We are so proud of them all and we look forward to their continued success for many years to come.
